1985 – The Unexpected Beginning

It all began with a meeting between Juliette, a specialist in Internal Medicine, Diabetology, and Metabolic Diseases, and Tullio, a pioneer of green building in Abruzzo. Together they decide to build a house that reflects their values: a simple, sustainable place in harmony with nature. With materials such as wood, stone, and terracotta, and with the first green building techniques, what will be the future family home was born: not yet a farmhouse, but a refuge in which to raise children in a healthy and authentic way.

Years ’90 – A more authentic life
Juliette's medical experience, combined with the desire for a more genuine life, leads the family to rediscover ancient rhythms and gestures: the first organic garden, the first chickens, a few goats to keep the fields clean. Over time, the house transforms into a small rural reality, where work and nature intertwine in everyday life.

1998 – The birth of the Masseria
The purchase of old abandoned land, slowly restored to productivity, marks a new phase: Masseria San Iorio is officially born, an organic farm and agritourism in Abruzzo, founded on the principles of sustainability and respect for the environment. A deep focus on biodiversity and tradition is being developed: thanks to meticulous research among local elders, ancient local varieties of fruit and vegetables are being recovered.
With the help of Grandma Ida, Grandpa Levino, and Grandma Clara, precious peasant recipes such as jams and the famous Ratafià di Argene, an ancient liqueur from the village tradition, are rediscovered.
Thus was born the transformation workshop, where ancient knowledge met new production techniques and professional tools. Production is expanding: jams, liqueurs, vegetables preserved in oil (sott’oli), juices, and syrups are gradually filling the windows of the small company store.

2002 – A stable and new horizons
The purchase of land with an old stable ruin opens a new phase of growth. After a lengthy renovation, the stable is being repurposed and goat farming is expanding, bringing with it new challenges and opportunities.

2015 – From the stable to the farmhouse
As the flock grows and the desire to share their way of life, the old stable — no longer suitable for the new quality standards — is transformed into the Agriturismo La Corte della Masseria..
Welcoming guests becomes a way to make known the reality of the company and the values that have always guided it: respect for nature, authenticity and quality.

The difficult years and the new rebirth
Managing livestock farming has not always been easy. Logistical and structural difficulties have led to a reduction in the number of animals — a difficult choice but consistent with the principle of breeding only correctly and sustainably. In the same years, the second generation began to breathe new life into the project: Clara, now head of the livestock and agritourism sectors, supported Juliette in managing the company, while Giuseppe, an engineer, while working abroad, actively collaborated with ideas and technical expertise. Alongside them, Maurizio, a veterinarian, mycologist, and herpetologist, brings new stimuli and knowledge, contributing to an increasingly attentive approach to animal welfare and environmental sustainability.

2024 – A new balance
After years of work and design, the new stable is born: modern, efficient and designed to ensure maximum well-being for the goats and their caregivers. An important milestone, marking a new phase of growth for Masseria San Iorio, founded on yesterday's experience and tomorrow's vision.
